1996 Subaru Legacy GT

This was a dream car for me.  Being an import it was stupidy fast, not least because the engine bay was crammed with not one but two turbo's!!  I bought this motor for £1100 realising that it required some work both mechanically and asthetically.

First thing I replaced was a CV Joint which cost me £100 fitted.  I had plans to start spending on getting the bodywork up to scratch which would have meant stripping both front and rear bumpers and respraying and also filling and spraying on of the side skirts as it had a nasty scrape running a way along it.  I also had plans to sort a small amount of rust that had accumulated around both rear wheel arches.

Those plans went out the window when I realised I was loosing water.  After some investigation it turned out to be a duff waterpump which meant a new timing belt as well as the pump ran off the timing belt.  This fix cost me £400 fitted.

Next item on the agenda was to cure a hesitation/stalling problem.  Originally it was thought to be the MAF sensor but this turned out not to be the case.  Further investigation found the item causing the problem was a faulty fuel pump.  This was replaced with an uprated Walbro pump which cost £80 plus the £60 fitting fee.

All was going well.....until a fatal drive to Birmingham whereby the oil pump seized which resulted in a piston being chewed up and a bent con rod.  It was not financially viable for me to fix or stick a new engine in so I reluctantly sold her as spare or repairs on eBay for £375.  That's the most expensive six weeks motoring I've ever encountered!
